Kidz Club at the Westside Pavillion Mall
Jun 2009

What better place to have fun, play with kids and bring dental awareness to our community than the Westside Pavillion Mall. This family oriented mall has great shops for kids and all ages. The Mall works with many schools in the area and hostes several kid-friendly events every year. Smiles sponsored the Kidz Club that took place the beginning of June. We created a signature color (yellow of course!) booth and offered the families at the event a summer special for pediatric dental care.

Remember, to prevent those cavities, we need to start early. That means, a dental examination by age one. Check out our FAQ page to learn about early dental care and how it can change your child’s outlook on dentistry for life.

Smiles Learns some French
Mar 2009

The Smiles team headed to Le Lycee Francais De Los Angeles (lyceela.org) with our puppets to present a “learn how to brush” show. We met the students in three campuses. First the Pico campus. Second, the Pacific Palisades campus and third, the Overland Campus. We made many new friends and learned a little French too.

Brossez s'il vous plaît les dents deux fois par jour!

How to Keep Your Teeth Healthy
Mar-Apr 2009

A couple of other great schools in our area wanted to learn about how to keep their students' teeth healthy. Food choices at school and at home play a big role in preserving oral health. The “Smiles” team was on a mission. We wanted to demonstrate how eating healthy can still be tasty. We also needed to give some helpful tips on preventing cavities.

All the students at St. Timothy School participated in our “healthy foods for healthy teeth” workshop. We started with the younger classes and worked our way up to the forth graders. The kids had many dental questions for us to answer. Several of our buddies said they were interested in becoming dentists!

Dental Awareness Months
Jan-Feb 2009

The “Smiles” team continues spreading the word about dental awareness throughout the schools in our community. The eight kindergarten classes at the Westwood Charter School showed us great hospitality. With many of the students already coming to Smiles, they were pretty well prepared to show off their tooth brushing skills. We thank all the great Kindergarten teachers who hosted our presentation. We really enjoyed visiting the school.

Little Village Nursery School Visit
Nov 2008

At Smiles, we love to spread the hype about oral health and happy teeth. Where better to start than at our neighbors, the Little Village Nursery? Dr. Reem, Lisa and Gloria packed up their fuzzy friends along with their toothbrushes and visited the school in mid November. Dr. Reem made special posters to show the kids how to brush, where their "big girl" and "big boy" teeth were hiding, and what tooth-friendly foods to eat. Everybody got to practice brushing the teeth of our stuffed animals (Darby the Dog, Kangaroo Jack and Mommy Alligator). We all had a blast!

Clover's Halloween Hurrah!
Oct 2008

Smiles team had a blast at Clover Avenue Elementary School last October. We participated in the "Halloween Hurrah" which the school organizes every year. The kids loved our "tooth vitamins" game. The object was to throw the vitamins in the mouth. This was no easy task but Clover goers prooved to be great players! Winners recevied a toothbrush (to brush away that Halloween candy), toys and stickers. We also donated three tickets to visit Smiles as raffle prizes. We are already looking forward to next year's Hurrah!

Our Grand Opening
Aug 2008

Although Smiles has been open for a while, we wanted to have an official date to celebrate! We also wanted to reach out to the families in our neighborhood with a service that we really believe in. Children's safety. We happily welcomed our guests from "kids r1st", a non profit organization that offers child ID safety kits, to help us out. Another special guest was officer Taylor from the LAPD who showed parents how to use child car seats properly. The kids also got their pictures taken on officer Taylor's motorcycle! Everyone was surprised by the tooth fairy who waved her magic toothbrush and painted shiny teeth on cheeks. Other fun activities included ID bracelet making, computer games and movies. At the end of the day, over 60 kids had complimentary ID kits, balloons and prizes. We all had a great time.
